Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Star Trek Sequel

Busy year for Sherlock star

Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on for the Untitled Star Trek sequel in a so far undisclosed role.

Cumberbatch, best known to British audiences as Sherlock Holmes in the modern television series Sherlock, can be seen in theaters right now in the films War Horse and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Along with the role in Star Trek, Cumberbatch is set to appear in Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit films as Smaug and as the voice of the Necromancer.

The Star Trek sequel has a release date of May 17th, 2013.
