David Fincher to go 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

Looks like a No-Go for Cleopatra and Dragon Tattoo Sequels

Despite the disappointing but steady box office returns for David Fincher’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Sony fully intends to move forward with the trilogy’s next instalment, The Girl Who Played with Fire. However, the likelihood of Fincher’s return as director continues to look bleaker as The Playlist reports his intentions to make 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea his next project.

Fincher has apparently fallen for the Disney script penned by Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns and is currently going through another draft by Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker. It is the film’s scope, loaded with CGI and intended to be 3D that will require an intense amount of pre and post production. These time requirements, as well as his attachment to House of Cards, the upcoming political series staring Kevin Spacey, will keep Fincher occupied and unavailable for any Dragon Tattoo sequels and the Scott Rudd produced Cleopatra pic staring Angelina Jolie.

The plan is to have 20,000 leagues begin filming sometime in the fall, if not before the end of 2012.
