Doctor Who Fans Rejoice Over Movie Updates: TV Doctor is Movie Doctor!

Written by Sarah Townsend December 02, 2011

Several weeks ago David Yates confirmed that he is working on a “Doctor Who” movie project.  At the time he expressed wanting to use a different actor from the television series and wanting to start from scratch.  The BBC’s involvement was even called into question with rumours of an American team and even the possibility of an American actor playing ‘The Doctor’.  Fans, British and otherwise, were decidedly unimpressed.

News about a project so far away (2-3 years at least) is always subject to change however word from Steven Moffat, current showrunner of the BBC show has said officially stated that as of now, “any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot. David Yates, great director, was speaking off the cuff, on a red carpet. You’ve seen the rubbish I talk when I’m cornered.”.  Whether that Doctor will be current Doctor Matt Smith remains to be seen, but as of now, fans can give a sigh of relief.  Whoever the TV Doctor, the movie Doctor will be!

Will it be Smith?
