IGN sat sat down with Andy Serkis to discuss when the first official teaser will be released for the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Serkis, who is playing Gollum and is serving as a second unit director, said that There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe.
There is no word what theatrical release the film will be attached to, but the two strongest contenders are Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and The Adventures of Tintin.
