George Lucas says he is retiring from blockbuster filmmaking.

George Lucas has always received a mixed reception from the nerd community at large. He is the man responsible for bring us the original Star Wars trilogy and the Indiana Jones films. However, to the disdain of many fans, he also brought the Stars Wars prequel movies into the world and has made many revision to the original trilogy.

George Lucas has of late been on a press tour for his latest film, Red Tails and let us in on the future of his career as a filmmaker. He recently said to the New York Times: “I’m retiring. … I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.” George Lucas states that this is not the end of his film career just that he is going to focus on smaller more personal projects from now on. He notes however, that he is giving himself an “out clause” on Indiana Jones five. Yes, that means that he will indeed be working on it. His long time producer, Rick McCallum, also said that: “Once [Red Tails] is finished, he’s done everything he’s ever wanted to do… He will have completed his task as a man and a filmmaker.”

Red Tails, his most recent film, is about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of black pilots who fought in World War II. Red Tails hits theatres tomorrow and you can check out the trailer below.
