The 2nd Annual We Eat Films Festival, partnered with OPENWIDE Magazine, and sponsored by the USC and the Reverie Arts Festival. It was a fantastic festival, filled with many great documentary and narrative films. Listed below are the 1st and 2nd place winners for Best Narrative and Best Documentary, as well as our People’s Choice winners.

1st Place Narrative Submission: “Venice is for Lovers”-Christopher Beaulieu

Two lovers reminisce about a recent trip to Italy, but the details of their trip don’t match up. As their memories become increasingly disparate, the basis of their love falls into obscurity.

1st Place Documentary Submission: “Debt Sentence”-Travis Welowszky

A documentary revolving around student debt and the political actions of a small group of Western University students who spoke out when no one would speak for them.

2nd Place Narrative Submission: “Wing Man”-Brad Bangsboll

Three roommates struggle to deal with their friends growing insanity as he plans to “save” the 2009 Super Bowl.

2nd Place Documentary Submission: “Small Town Global”-Drew McLean

A personal look at the town of Chatham-Kent, and how the changes to the auto industry following the recession have impacted small Ontario towns.

People’s Choice Best Narrative: “Bike Cop”-Spencer Kring

People’s Choice Best Documentary: “Out of Stock” – Evan Stoymenoff

We at We Eat Films and OPENWIDE thank everyone who submitted to the festival, and everyone who made it out to the event.

The films featured in the festival will be released on our website and Facebook page over the next week, so keep your eyes peeled!
