Kristen Stewart Offered Akira

Written by Nick Workman November 15, 2011

Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Snow White and the Huntsman) has been offered the role of Kei in the upcoming, live-action adaptation of Akira.

Stewart is joining the already growing cast of Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Keira Knightly (Pirate of the Caribbean), and Helena Bonham-Carter (The King’s Speech).

The character Kei, a member of a terrorist group, serves as a love interest to Garrett Hedlund’s character Kaneda, a member of a biker gang in a cyberpunk dystopia.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) is directing the adaptation from a screenplay by Steve Kloves (Harry Potter).
