Webb Brings us Webs

Director Marc Webb and Columbia Pictures release the new Spider-Man trailer.

On Tuesday we had your Dark Knight Rises trailer. Today, we even it up by featuring Marvel’s latest project – the new, and improved, Amazing Spider-Man series.

The film, to be released in 3D on July 3rd, 2012, will be Columbia Pictures’ fourth film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man.

What happened to the other Spider-Man?

Although Spider-Man 4 was planned to be in theaters in 2011, the film was canned when director Sam Raimi withdrew from the project. Marc Webb quickly replaced Raimi and began production on the first film of the new Amazing Spider-Man series – continuing the Spider-Man franchise. The film centralizes Peter Parker’s developing super powers in high school, and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, and Rhys Ifans.

The characters:

Peter Parker

Similarly to the first film of the original Spider-Man franchise, Peter is a regular student until he is bitten by a radioactive spider. As a result, he gains the abilities of a spider and uses these powers to combat evil. In this film,  Andrew Garfield from The Social Network will play Peter Parker.

Gwen Stacy

In the comics, Gwen Stacy is one of Spider-Man’s earliest crushes. Her father is Captain George Stacy, head of the New York Police Department. Emma Stone will play Miss Stacy.

The Lizard

Dr. Curt Connors, played by Rhys Ifans, is a scientist who, in attempts of regenerating his missing arm by experimenting with lizard serum, turns into a reptilian humanoid villain.

Eugene “Flash” Thompson

Eugene, played by Chris Zylka, is Parker’s high school nemesis. A football jock and bully, Eugene constantly picks on Peter. Ironically enough, however, he practically worships Parker’s alter-ego, Spider-Man.

Van Adder

In the comics Adder, played by Irrfan Khan, becomes a supervillain named the Proto-Goblin.
