Ricky Gervais May Host The Golden Globes Again

Written by Curtis Sell November 17, 2011

Rick Gervais‘ Golden Globe hosting career sure has been a controversial one. Last year he hosted the annual awards show to much criticism as he aggressively insulted actors, presenters and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) alike. Despite all of this, NBC wants Ricky Gervais back for a third time, and even convinced the HFPA to have him return once more. However, the HFPA’s decision was not unanimous:

While many welcome Gervais’s return, not everyone is happy with the decision because last year his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters. After the show Gervais dismissed the possibility of coming back for a third time, but he gradually warmed to the idea and last month met with HFPA President Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly in Paris to discuss it.

The big question remains would Ricky return? After the aftermath of last year’s Golden Globes he was firm that he would never host the show again. However, his mind has changed in the last few months. Recently, he even suggested that if he didn’t host he would do his own running commentary of the show. Similarly, after Eddie Murphy stepped down as host of the Oscars, Ricky Gervais even joked that he would host the Oscars and the Golden Globes for a discounted price.

If you missed Ricky Gervais as host last year, I would suggest checking it out. Below I have embedded a video of Ricky’s finer moments.
