Sequel for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Moves Forward

Sony puts faith into Millennium franchise

David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo cost 90 million to make (not including marketing), yet has only grossed 60 million domestically. This, however, has not stopped Sony Pictures from green lighting the sequel, The Girl who Played with Fire, which is the second book in the Millennium series.

While some say the movie is under performing, others have put faith in that the film will do well internationally, creating enough buzz to move on with the franchise. [Dragon Tattoo] continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the next book, said one Sony Rep.

No word has been given on if Fincher is going to return for the sequel, screenwriter Steven Zaillian (Moneyball), Daniel Craig (Skyfall), and Rooney Mara (The Social Network) are signed on for the sequel.
