There are a multitude of actions flicks that star leading men kicking ass and taking names. The women who star alongside these bad boys often exhibit an admiration for their courage and fearlessness, but are seldom at the forefront of the action themselves. It’s truly awesome when a film comes along that stars a fearless female lead taking on the bad-to-the-bone role so often associated exclusively with men. Here’s my personal top 5 list of female characters that strike the perfect chord between sultry and badass, all while rocking outfits tight enough to not leave anything to the imagination.
5. Mila Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil
When a virus infiltrates a secret facility and its staff are transformed into killer zombies, the military unit that is sent in comes across Alice – a feisty woman at the forefront of the dangerous mission to destroy the virus. Alice has to contend with various dangerous forces and exhibits a staunch bravery, while strutting around with her greased up hair and itty-bitty outfits. In this flick, Jovovich is the ultimate badass supermodel.
4. Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in Batman Returns
Selina Kyle, a secretary, is transformed into Catwoman, a sinfully seductive figure who commands all eyes. Halle Barry recently revived this classic character, but Pfeiffer’s depiction simply can’t be beat. Catwoman rocks that seemingly painted on leather suit like no one else – trust me, I’ve seen others try – striking the perfect balance between sexy and bad. Pfeiffer makes the character one of the most fun to watch in Batman Returns and proves that men aren’t the only ones who can kick some ass!
3. Kate Beckinsale as Selene in Underworld
As the death dealer on the side of the Vampires who seek to wipe out all the Lycan who they have been at war with for centuries, Selene is fearless vixen who is truly a femme fatale. With her long leather trench coat, her piercing blue eyes, and a gun the size of a small child, its no wonder Beckinsale’s character made it on this list.
2. Uma Thurman as “The Bride” in Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Dubbed “The Bride”, Thurman’s character, formerly a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, awakens from a coma she fell into when she was shot by her ex-lover, Bill. When she awakens to realize her baby is gone, “The Bride” goes on a relentless mission to hunt down the members of the Deadly Viper Squad who are responsible. “The Bride” exudes an unwavering charisma that solidifies her place as one of the most badass babes in film. Plus, Thurman is a total smokeshow…who wouldn’t want to watch her kick some ass?
1. Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Croft is a tomb raider who tackles various exciting adventures in seeking to discover and protect ancient artifacts, and she emits a level of charisma while performing death defying stunts that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Jolie’s depiction of Croft is the ultimate combination of sexy and tough, and is one badass babe that will undoubtedly remain a classic.
