TOP 5 Dynamic Duos who Should Host The Oscars

Written by Megan Alexander November 27, 2011

Last year’s Oscar fiasco of choosing Anne Hathaway and James Franco as hosts will probably keep the Academy from choosing twosomes as hosts for a while. However, if the Academy does ever decide to double the pleasure of hosting again, I have a few suggestions for some dynamic duos that will certainly bring chemistry, laughter, and ratings to the ceremony.

5) Betty White and Cloris Leachman:

I am in love with both of these ladies, not only are they TV legends but they are also pretty freaking hilarious. These two former Mary Tyler Moore stars both killed as roasters for comedy central and they both hold their own as supporting stars on two popular comedies (Hot in Cleveland and Raising Hope). I think that these two old gals could teach younger hosts a thing or two about putting on a good show with charm and sharp humor. And I don’t even have to tell you biggest thing that these ladies would bring to the Oscars….major sex appeal!!!

4) John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell:

Separately these two are hilarious but together in films like Stepbrothers and Talladega Nights they are side splitting. When they join forces, these two bring out the immature frat boy in all of us, which I think is an element that can boast well during the slightly pretentious Oscar ceremony. Both guys have presented together several times at the Oscars and they have always gotten laughs, which could only be seen as a sign that these two are more then ready to take on the entire show as laugh out loud hosts. Shake ‘n’ Bake Baby!!!!

3) Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon:

We both know that these two have chemistry from their work together on SNL and that they are both great improv artists (a talent that is a great advantage for a live show). But what would make these two a great team is that they would both bring something different to the table. Fey is sharp and witty, while Fallon is charming and lovable. And as an added bonus, these two are both talented writers (Fey especially) so they can both contribute in creating brilliant Oscar material. I must admit I would also love to see if Fallon could handle keeping a straight face throughout the show and not be tempted to laugh all the time at his own jokes.

2) Matt Stone and Trey Parker:

Ok this one might be a bit of a stretch considering how much distain Hollywood has for these two due to their cruel (but brilliant) satire of celebrity culture in South Park. But these two have been nominated for an Oscar for best song for the South Park Movie (though they showed up in drag tripping on acid) and recently they have won the respect of Broadway with their Tony Award winning Show The Book of Norman. So, maybe putting these two on the Oscar stage would prove to be a great gamble as they have proven to be a great success on TV, film and stage. They can write great, funny songs (which have become key in recent Oscar ceremonies), they can write great jokes at the expense of Hollywood (though some might go to far) and they have worked together for years so you know they have chemistry. These two would also be ratings gold because they would bring in South Park fans who may have never watched the Oscars before. I mean who would not want to watch the guys who wrote “Chocolate Sweaty Balls” to host the biggest night in Hollywood.

1) Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segal:

How much would I like too see these two team up and host the Oscars? Lets face it, it is only a matter of time now before Neil Patrick Harris gets his chance to host the Oscars, he can sing he can dance and not to mention he is funny and charming. He has also had a lot of practice for being a master of ceremonies hosting both the Tony’s and the Emmys. The only thing that I think would make his Oscar hosting debut better is if he brought his HIMYM co-star Jason Segal along for the ride as co-host. Jason Segal like Harris is a fantastic, charming showman and he has also proven himself to be a fantastic comedy writer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets). Plus with Segal there is a chance that the Muppets would make an appearance and with Harris there is a chance that Dr. Horrible would make one as well. These two as Oscar Hosts would be Legen wait for it……Dary!!!!!
